News They Can Use: Giving Practical Feedback
Acclaimed pedagogue Lynn Helding, author of The Musician's Mind: Teaching, Learning and Performance in the Age of Brain Science, presents “News They Can Use: Giving Practice Feedback." Helding will offer practical advice based in research from both cognitive and developmental psychology about how to construct useful assessments.

The evening will begin with a light and leisurely reception at 6:30 p.m. and will include discussions with teachers and singers as well as a special presentation by Broadway/theatre casting professionals Duncan Stewart and Patrick Maravilla. We will be discussing working with nonbinary and transgender performers in the studio, and new and shifting paradigms and norms in casting, and in the profession.

Dr. Carleen Graham currently serves as Dean of the Vocal Division at Manhattan School of Music. Three participants will be selected to sing for Dr. Graham and receive industry feedback in front of a live audience.

The Kids Are Alright. Or Are They?

Re-entering the world of live performance, post-Covid, poses unique challenges to the younger generation of students. Join us as we speak with Julie Boyd (Professional Actress & Professor of Theater and Performance Arts at The New School, Queens College, Arts Bridge, and Director of Summer Music Theater at Fordham University) to gain valuable insights about how these challenges may present both emotionally and psychologically in studio, and develop best practices for helping your student.

Contemporary Styles Masterclass with Kevin Wilson
Kevin Wilson joined the Boston Conservatory voice faculty in 2008 and is an associate professor of voice. He teaches applied voice for musical theater and vocal performance, as well as the courses Structure and Function of the Singing Mechanism, Vocal Pedagogy, Applied Teaching Practicum, and Foundations of Voice Technique. He also serves as director of the Conservatory's Vocal Pedagogy Professional Workshop.
